This month's stupid-clever band name award goes to Rainer Werner Bassfinder, who just released a 12" single on Tiga's Montreal label Turbo Recordings.

This month's funny record sleeve design award goes to Rainer Werner Bassfinder, and you can view the NOT WORKSAFE cover here.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder is a collaboration between Jesper Dahlback and "The Dove". From Turbo's website: "Finally, the Dove has little patience for anyone who takes umbrage at the record’s artwork. “Everyone has a penis. Deal with it.”

    Yeah, that's right, "everyone"!!

And if that's "The Dove" whose vocals are on the B-Side, "Roses Are Red", then "The Dove" must be another one of Tiga's aliases.

I'm very excited about Farshad Abasi's kick-off night of Laser Dance Tuesdays [MySpace link] with Feathers of Lead performing live on January 8th @ Shine.

When someone says "Disco", people usually think "BeeGees", "K.C & The Sunshine Band", or something. I used to.

In Farshad's words, "from Giorgio Moroder to Gino Soccio, from Patrick Cowley to M.B.O. & Klein, from Laser Dance to Bobby O, from Alexander Robotnick to Lindstrom and Prins Thomas, from Casablanca to ZYX to DFA, from Donna Summer to Miss Kittin, from Telex to Faltermeyer, from The Glimmers to Mock and Toof, from Optimo to JD Twitch, from Cerrone to Sylvester, we cover it all.

If it is Italo Disco, Space Disco, Cosmic or Balearic, Disco Punk, 80s Funk, Classic Electro or Nu Disco and everyrthing in between, you know you can find it here, at Laser Dance Tuesdays.

    Expect something different... Something refreshing."

I'm definitely napping after work Tuesday and heading there early. Doors open at 10. If you're in Vancouver, come meet me there!

    Emotional R
I have a hard time shutting up about In Flagranti once I get started. They've got a new contribution to the "Mindless Boogie" edits 12" series. Anyway, I picked this up and lurve it. After hearing their whacked-out "Decade Of Hero Worship" mix CD, I'm glad to have my hands on their full take on The R*lling St*nes' "Em*ti*nal Rescue". You can preview all three clips here, and if someone could tell me who does "M*thers L*ve", I'd lurve that too.

Peaches, Tone Loc - Wild Thing (Peaches Remix Main)
Chromeo - Bonafied Lovin (Riot In Belgium Remix)
Miss Kittin - Kittin Is High (9/11 Remix by Black Labelle)

Cheap-o, DIY video for "Spacer Woman" by Charlie, with tedious screensaver graphics.

Funny, that this song always reminded me of "Fantastic Planet", and it looks like I'm not alone.

Turn it up and play this:

[edit: This is one of only four or five songs I've ever purchased from iTunes. Even for a simple, relatively low-tech recording like this, there's a huge difference in sound quality between iTunes' crappy bitrate and the 320 kbps mp3 that was later released on Beatport.]
